How to Use Groups?

Webayt In a CMS, Groups are used to associate content, forms, modules, or different record structures in the panel under a specific heading. Thanks to the group structure, content belonging to a specific group can be displayed, especially in module management areas, or a more general listing can be done with the All Groups option if needed.
Grouping simplifies management, especially on websites that use a large number of content items, forms, or modules. This allows records serving different purposes to be separated, creating a more understandable structure within the control panel.
What are groups used for?
Groups are a helpful classification system used within a CMS to associate different records under a specific structure.
When a record is associated with a specific group, related records can then be filtered or displayed in specific fields by selecting that group.
For example, a module or listing area can be configured to display only records belonging to a specific group. This allows the same structure to be used with different content on different pages or in different usage scenarios.
How can I access the Groups page?
To manage groups, you can access the Groups section from the left menu in the Webayt admin panel.
Groups
This page lists previously created groups. You can add new groups, edit existing groups, or delete them if necessary.
Group Listing Screen
On the Groups main screen, group records created in the system are displayed in a table. This table includes the group name and the relevant action buttons.
The following actions can generally be performed on the listing screen:
- View existing groups
- Go to the new group adding screen
- Editing the current group name
- Delete unused groups
The group list allows you to quickly see which groups are defined in the panel.
How to Add a New Group?
To create a new group, use the Add Group tab. On this screen, you only need to enter the group name.
- Log in to the Webayt admin panel.
- From the left-hand menu, go to Groups .
- Click the Add Group tab.
- Enter the name of the group you want to create in the Group Name field.
- Save the group by clicking the Add button.
Once a group is created, it becomes available in areas where a group selection is enabled in the panel.
How to Choose a Group Name?
The group name should be descriptive so you can more easily identify records in the panel. When choosing a group name, you can opt for short and clear names that describe its purpose.
Example group names:
- Help Center
- Blog
- Packages
- Website Management
- Homepage
- Default Group
Using a group name that is too general or difficult to understand can cause confusion in future selection processes. Therefore, it is important that group names are easily understood by panel users.
How to Update a Group?
To change the name of an existing group, you can click the Edit button next to the group in the listing screen.
In the group update screen that opens, simply edit the Group Name field and click the Update button.
When the group name is updated, the group will appear with its new name in the relevant fields in the panel. However, it may be helpful to review where this group is used before changing the group name.
Where are groups used?
Groups can be used within the Webayt CMS in various content, module, and listing structures. The main purpose is to associate records in the panel under a specific structure and to be able to filter based on this relationship when necessary.
In areas where group selection is available on the panel, the groups you create will be displayed as options. This allows you to associate relevant content, forms, categories, modules, or records with a specific group.
This structure allows for more organized management of content serving different purposes within the same system. For example, if you want to display only records belonging to a specific group on a page, you can select the group in the relevant field to achieve a more controlled listing.
Groups are particularly useful in structures where content, forms, and modules need to be separated. This makes records belonging to different use cases within the same panel more understandable and manageable.
How to Use Group Selection?
In areas where group selection is available in the CMS, the groups you have previously created are listed. Depending on the purpose for which the relevant record or module will be used, the appropriate group can be selected, and records can be associated with a specific group structure.
Group selection is most commonly used in Module Management , when adding or editing a module. When a specific group is selected in a module, that module can function to display only content or records belonging to that group.
For example, if you only want to list content belonging to the "Help Center" group on a page, you can set the group selection to "Help Center" in the module management area. This way, the same module structure can be used to display different content groups on different pages.
If you want the module to display all eligible records without being tied to a specific group, you can use the "All Groups" option in the group selection field. In this case, the module will not be filtered by a single group and can list all eligible records within that structure.
When selecting a group, ensure that the chosen group is compatible with the relevant module or content structure. Incorrect group selection may result in the expected content not being displayed or different records being listed.
For more detailed information on adding and managing modules to pages, please see the "How to Add Modules to Pages?" guide.
What is the default group?
Webayt In some CMS structures, the Default Group can be used. The Default Group is the standard group structure that can be preferred when no specific group selection is made or for general-purpose content.
You don't need to create a custom group for each record. If the record belongs to a general structure and doesn't require specific filtering, the Default Group can be used.
What should be considered before deleting a group?
Before deleting a group, it's important to check if that group is already being used in any content, form, module, category, or listing structure within the panel.
When a group is deleted, the filtering or listing structures associated with that group may be affected. Therefore, deleting actively used groups is not recommended.
Before deleting a group, you should be sure of the areas in which the group is used and perform the deletion accordingly.
What should be considered when using groups?
Groups are a helpful structure that simplifies content and module management. However, creating too many or unplanned groups can make panel usage difficult.
- Choose short and easy-to-understand group names.
- Do not create multiple similar groups for the same purpose.
- In areas where group selection is available, make sure the correct group is selected.
- Plan in advance under which groups you will categorize the records.
- Before deleting unused groups, check the associated domains.
- For general use, you can utilize the default group structure.
When should a new group be formed?
Creating a new group can be useful when you want to manage records in the panel more systematically. However, instead of creating a new group for every small distinction, it's healthier to create groups only for the fields that truly need filtering or association.
You might consider creating a new group in the following situations:
- When you want to separate certain records from others
- When you want to display only specific records in a listing area
- When you want to organize records of the same type according to different uses
- When you want to make content and module management more understandable in the panel
When creating a new group, it's recommended to consider that future users of the panel should also be able to easily understand the group name.
Summary
Groups are a helpful classification system used in the Webayt CMS to associate content, forms, modules, and different record structures under specific headings.
Group structure is primarily used for filtering purposes in module management. When a module is added, selecting a specific group will only display records belonging to that group. Using the "All Groups" option allows the module to list relevant records without being limited to a specific group.
When creating groups, it's important to use understandable names, avoid creating unnecessary similar groups for the same purpose, and check related fields before deleting actively used groups.
